Keturah Williams, age 36, and Damon Martin, age 51, both of Waterbury, were charged with risk of injury and impairing morals of a child and cruelty to a person, police said. They turned themselves over to investigators on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Doctors and nurses at Saint Mary’s Hospital contacted Waterbury Police on Oct. 24 after Williams and Martin brought the child to the emergency room.
Investigators said the child fell between the bed and the wall, landing on a hot, electric heating element, causing the boy's injuries. They also determined that Williams and Martin delayed getting the child medical treatment so they could drink and do drugs, Waterbury Police said.
The child was treated at Saint Mary’s Hospital and turned over to the custody of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, police said. The two other children in the home were also removed into the state's care.
Williams was being held on a $75,000 bond and Martin a $150,000 bond, authorities said.
